About me

Hello and welcome to Joys of Jeevithum! My name is Rena George and I am a Certified Functional Nutrition Counselor ready to hear your story and help you heal as you continue on in your wellness journey. I am a mother of three extraordinary kids and married to an amazing husband who has supported me all throughout my “pursuit of healthiness.” Growing up in a South Indian household exposed me to the many healing powers of Ayurvedic medicine thanks to my parents, grandparents and extended family. The go-to trifecta protocol of honey, lemon, and ginger to help with recovery from congestion is still my tried-and-true treatment.

Along with my natural healing upbringing, my passion for functional nutrition came about at the end of the first year of the pandemic in 2020. Once I became self-aware of how I was dealing with work/life balance, running a busy household, and the anxiety of protecting my loved ones from covid, the impacts had already caught up to me and wreaked havoc throughout my body. Fatigue, stress, mood swings, weight gain, skin changes, insomnia, anxiety, hair loss, body aches, inflammation, foggy brain, and digestive related issues . . . the list goes on. Food was a big crutch for my family during this time as we all faced some form of anxiety, fear, stress, sorrow, and defeat. We happily cooked, baked, air fried, ate, and drank as much as we pleased with little to no regard for how this would eventually impact our health.

I knew my state of health was poor and that I needed to fix what I had broken. I began to spend endless hours researching my symptoms, redirecting my focus on restoring balance in my life, and resetting my relationship with food. I quickly made an appointment to see a functional medicine doctor who was able to connect the dots and explain the reasons for my state of health, which were clearly evident through my lab results. This was my wake up call. Little did I know back then, this passion to seek answers to questions about my own health would ultimately change my course and set me on a new path of discovery in functional nutrition. I consumed myself with all things nutrition and healthy living for months but wanted to deepen my understanding of how the body functions to be able to better support it. I decided to further my education by completing a training program to become a Certified Functional Nutrition Counselor. One thing led to the next and I quit my job, leaving behind my career of 20+ years in corporate finance during the “Great Resignation.” Soon after I suddenly found myself grinding flax seed daily and sprinkling it on just about anything that made sense!

I made it a point to use this time off to focus on healing my mind and body all while engaging in activities with purpose. I have truly been enjoying my health transformation while working on becoming the best version of myself! My journey is far from over, but my progress is a testament to a nutritious diet, active lifestyle, reducing the toxins found in many of the household/personal care products used daily, and practicing mindfulness to reduce stress. The most rewarding part of sharing what I’ve learned with family and friends is witnessing the positive changes in their lives. I am committed to encouraging those that are seeking to renew themselves both physically and mentally but may not have the tools to reach their goals alone. Through functional nutrition therapy, my hope is to help close the gap within our medical industry that continues to treat symptoms rather than resolving the root cause to the problem. I am here to help educate you on how your body should function, why you’re feeling out of balance, and how to start the healing process with diet and lifestyle modifications.
